The Social Security Administration (SSA) recently announced plans to update its Enumeration at Birth (EAB) program to help parents enroll newborns in Trump Accounts, which are investment accounts established for eligible children under federal law.

SSA plans to work with hospitals and states to modify existing birth registration forms and provide information about the new accounts during the Social Security number application process.

For hospitals, birthing centers and licensed midwives, this announcement references the existing EAB program, which allows parents to request a Social Security number (SSN) for their newborn as part of birth registration.

Through EAB, birth information is transmitted electronically to SSA, eliminating the need for parents to complete a separate application or visit a Social Security office. SSA then assigns the SSN, issues a Social Security card and updates its records with proof of birth.

The agency reports an average processing time of about two weeks, with cards typically arriving within two additional weeks.
